Castle Shinszu (also spelled Castle Shizu or known as the Oshitzu Compound) is a sprawling, fortified stone-and-ironwood fortress commanding the strategic inland water and mountain channels between Threetrees and the Stormhorns. It serves as the ancestral seat of the Oshitzu Clan and the personal stronghold of Lord Vindvenford.

Architecture & Defenses

  • Moated Canal & Mountain Approach System: Built across a network of natural shelves and dredged channels, protected by submerged log spikes, mountain watchtowers, and lantern-lit guard posts that scan the approaches day and night.
  • East & West Gatehouses: Heavy iron-reinforced timber gates wide enough to admit trade barges and amphibious patrols.
  • Shoji & Ironwood Halls: Interior architecture features ornate sliding paper screens set into swamp-hardened cypress and ironwood framing, heated by natural methane-vent floor radiators.
  • Infirmary of the Hospitalers: The sanctuary where the clan's catfish nuns brew herbal infusions and tend to wounded warriors.
  • The Master Bedchamber: Sized to accommodate Vindvenford's eight-foot half-giant frame, featuring a reinforced timber bed and armor racks where his battered auto-cannon and equipment are maintained.

The House Guard & Stompah's Investiture

Castle Shinszu maintains a disciplined standing military. When the minotaur warrior Stompah swore service to the estate's house guard, Vindvenford personally presented him with his ornate greataxe in the castle courtyard before later dispatching Stompah to anchor the M.A.S.H. perimeter in the Stormhorns.
