Dorimo Aris
Dorimo Aris
Dorimo Aris is a half Kara-Turian, half Cormyrean warrior monk and half-sibling of Jon Aris and Caduca Aris. He is described simply as "a mountain of human doing" — a man of extraordinary physical presence, eastern discipline, and a stoicism that reads, to western eyes, as either inscrutability or unnerving calm.
Origins
Dorimo's origin is complicated in the particular way of eastern royal politics. He is the chance son of a young Kara-Turian princess who was, as Dooley puts it, "out slumming it." He was loved and raised well — genuinely, in the tradition of the Kara-Turian court — but as he grew, his illegitimacy made him a political liability. The choice was leave or face assassination by those who found his existence inconvenient. He left.
His route to the Farseas ran through the The Draco Family of Calimshan — travelers and thrill-seekers who maintain a magic carpet route between the Aris seat and the Chu'yuan province of Kara-Tur. Dorimo made that journey and found himself in the company of his half-brother Jon and half-brother Caduca, a world away from everything he had been trained for.
Training and Combat
Dorimo was trained from birth in the royal warrior monk tradition of Kara-Tur: armored monk techniques and tactics, the precise application of force, eastern martial philosophy applied to western chainmail. He is "specially skilled in armored monk techniques" — which means he is the person in a room who can simultaneously be the most dangerous individual present and the one who looks the most like a statue.
"Anything Dorimo can't ginsu with fists or blade, Caduca handles with personality." This division of labor defines the Aris sibling dynamic: Caduca is broad, warm, politically nimble; Dorimo is precise, quiet, and absolute.
Frustrations
Dorimo is frustrated. The dishonor accumulating around the Aris family's name — Jon's dalliance with Manshoon's promises, the compromises, the slow erosion of principle for expedience — stresses him in ways he expresses through increasingly rigid stoicism. A Kara-Turian royal warrior monk knight has specific ideas about what honor means, and the Farseas' civil war does not consistently meet them.
