Mayor Wreth

Mayor Wreth

Wreth is the mayor of Elden's Crossing — a lawyer-turned-mayor who navigated the complex intersection of Cormyrean law, swamp sovereignty, and commercial pressure with more skill than most expected, right up until Carcenjo Foxmantle II had him kidnapped and tortured.

Background

Wreth came to the mayoralty of Elden's Crossing through the law — a background that proved both useful and dangerous in the Farseas' current political climate. A lawyer's instinct for contract terms and jurisdictional limits made him effective at protecting Elden's Crossing's interests; it also made him a specific target for anyone who needed legal documents signed against the signer's will.

Carcenjo Foxmantle II needed exactly that. He wanted Wreth's signature on documents authorising Foxmantle methane claims over Elden's Crossing's facilities — claims explicitly prohibited by Cormyrean law, but commercially essential to Carcenjo's ambitions. Carcenjo had Wreth transported to Slymount, his cliff fortress between Threetrees and Elden's Crossing, and applied sustained pressure.

Wreth refused to sign.

Rescue

A group of adventurers arrived at Slymount via a writ provided by Carcenjo himself — who had attempted to recruit them as swamp operatives before the situation with Wreth became known to them. They found Wreth in Slymount's lower levels, freed him, and returned him to Elden's Crossing.

In doing so, they made Carcenjo Foxmantle II their enemy.

Current Status

Wreth is back in Elden's Crossing and resumed as mayor. He owes the adventuring party a significant debt. He is, understandably, aware that Carcenjo Foxmantle II remains free, heirless, dangerous, and now additionally motivated by the humiliation of having his hostage freed by the people he tried to hire.
