Malorens Rest
Maloren's Rest
Maloren's Rest is a small town of roughly 800 inhabitants nestled against the curve of the Tun River, positioned at the edge of Cormyr's effective administrative reach and the beginning of the lawless Farseas to the north.
Character
The town sustains itself on two industries: fishing and herding. Fishermen work the Tun River trawling its channels, while shepherds tend flocks of sheep and assorted cattle on the outskirts, using the grassy margins between settled land and swamp edge. The pace is slow, the population modest, and the concerns are largely local.
A small military outpost maintains a Cormyr presence — less a garrison than a watchpost, monitoring the river approaches from the Farseas and providing a nominal deterrent to the creatures that occasionally emerge from the swamp.
Defenses
Partial wooden walls encircle parts of the town, built to repel incursions from Farsea Swamp to the north. The walls are functional rather than impressive — sufficient for the threat level the town typically faces, which runs to opportunistic raids rather than organized assault.
Regional Context
Maloren's Rest sits in quiet proximity to Old Axe, a similarly-sized lumber town that serves as its nearest neighbor. The two settlements share the character of Cormyrean frontier communities: modest, practical, and acutely aware that the empire's protection thins considerably at this distance from the capital.
The town has expanded gradually over the years, absorbing travelers and refugees from the increasingly unstable swamp interior.
