Cormyr
Cormyr
Cormyr — sometimes called the Crater Kingdom in Farseas regional parlance — is the powerful human kingdom to the east of the Farseas, ruled by the Obarskyr dynasty. It serves as the primary external political force exerting pressure on the swamp peoples throughout the The Farsea Chronicles.
Relationship to the Farseas
Cormyr's interest in the Farseas is fundamentally economic. The swamp's methane gas reserves power lamps and heating across Cormyrean cities, and the Hydracephelate and refined tar products produced by the House Irungarten family are valued for their alchemical applications. The Guild of Precision — a Cormyr-aligned dwarf-heavy industrial guild — profits enormously from selling methane-powered lamps and cylinders to Cormyrean consumers.
Cormyrean law theoretically prohibits extraterritorial resource claims by noble families without Crown consent — a law that Carcenjo Foxmantle II has been quietly violating by attempting to reassert his family's methane interests in the Farseas.
Political Influence
The Obarskyrs claim nominal suzerainty over the Farseas, a claim that the swamp peoples dispute. The land treaties negotiated in Elden's Crossing's western end — now submerged — were critical to establishing that swamp ownership does not fall to the Obarskyrs by default. Erdrick Aris was working to file those treaties when he died, leaving his son Jon Aris to inherit the political problem.
The Purple Dragons knights have historically ventured into the Farseas on Crown business.
Osrin Infiltration
The House Osrin has, in recent years, taken the remarkable step of replacing certain members of Cormyr's court with their own agents — the originals kept sedated in tanks, feeding the family's pet intellect devourers. This represents an Osrin foray to re-establish political relevance in Cormyrean circles through what is charitably described as aggressive proxy politics.
Geography
The Stormhorns mountain range separates Cormyr's civil centers from the Farseas to the west. The Storm Horns are noted for dwarf-cut galleries and older vaults sealed by forgotten dwarf-lords — confirming ancient dwarven connections between the two regions.
