Stream Quest

This was a bit shocking, and maybe it shouldn't be.

I got an email today from a web service called Stream Quest. It let's viewers put quests up for streamers with dollar values attached.

Also, it has a payment system and an overlay for displaying the "quests."

In short, it could allow other streams to do what I do, and be rewarded with dollars that viewers put up for the accomplishment of the tasks. It looks like the viewer who puts up the quest is responsible for clearing it too, which takes the onus off the streamer, save to accept the quest.

I have to admit, I'm a bit upset by the whole of it, for fairly obvious reasons and it makes me want to scrap my whole system in favour of this service.

I expect all the other guys to eventually start doing this. If Maze Arcana, EncounterRoleplay, the Dungeoneers, Yogs Cast, and maybe even Acquisitions Inc. start taking real money for injections, where does that leave me? The injections and fairy were meant to set me apart from those guys. Now it seems as though it will be a handicap on my streams potential because the truth is I don't have the wherewithal to spend all of my time coding. I code for work, and my sidework, then I have to code for my stream..?

Am I doing this for money? No (although I'd like to) but I am doing it for recognition and if there's a commercial service that every other stream is going to adopt then I can't really expect any special recognition for my special system.

It was a good idea, Johnny. So good that someone else had it too; last year (their twitter account was active as of Nov. 2016).

Anyhow, a bit emotional about it, obviously; maybe I'm making something out of nothing. Maybe what I should use the system for player quests as opposed to DM injections.

Thoughts?
