Hiren Kropus

Hiren Kropus (1363–1444 DR) was a human explorer, linguist, and entrepreneur who discovered the methane potential of the Farsea Swamps and became one of the three founding figures of the Farseas enterprise. Comely, tall, and possessed of a glib tongue skilled in many languages, Hiren was a man whose eyes were always on the horizon — sometimes to his benefit, sometimes to the irritation of those who had to keep him grounded.

He is the patriarch of Kropus House, whose commercial and political legacy shaped the Farseas for over a century.

Early Life and Exploration

Hiren was not born to wealth or title. He came up among drovers, traders, and wanderers — the kind of company that teaches a man to read rooms, learn languages quickly, and talk his way out of situations that his feet had walked him into. By the time he reached Cormyr, he had already spent years exploring the Farsea Swamps' eastern margins, meeting enough drovers and dwarves to understand that the region was not merely dangerous but rich — if you knew what you were looking for.

What he was looking for was methane. The gas seeping from the swamp's peat beds and marsh vents was not just a nuisance; it was a fuel source of enormous potential.

The Founding

In Cormyr, Hiren met Eleanor Osrin — a Thayan woman haunted by loss. She was emotionally unavailable; he was sometimes petulant and prone to optimism without grounding. They balanced each other perfectly. The third founding partner was Carcenjo Foxmantle I, a half-elven merchant who nearly died in the swamps before the partnership had properly formed — captured by the Suh'Skel and nearly eaten before Hiren negotiated his freedom as part of the deal that secured the first methane drilling site.

Within a year of joining forces, the trio had done what no one had managed before: made use of the Farsea Swamp for something other than banditry, hiding, or dying in.

Family

Hiren married someone of elven or half-elven descent; his son Vader Kropus was half-elven as a result. He also fathered Dranten Kropus, who chose politics over commerce and was responsible for the Peoples Accord, the foundational political document of the Farseas.
