Dranten Kropus

Vader Kropus's brother and fellow son of Hiren Kropus, Dranten had big shoes to fill — yet while his brother ran the family's swamp empire, Dranten wanted nothing to do with the methane trade and chose an altogether different path to honour the family name.

Alone in a strange world while his father suffered the loss of their mother, Dranten set himself a singular purpose: to see the swamp region officially recognised as a state within the Cormyrean empire, so that his father might leave this world with a proud smile.

In due course Dranten managed to see several parchments stamped between Threetrees and Suzail, convincing Obarskyr and Wartscale Family alike that the true enemy was bandits and mutual distrust, and that alliances, trade, and a shared future were in everyone's interest.

To everyone's surprise, Dranten was not only successful, but it turned out that many had long been clamouring for the resources the Farseas had to offer. His diplomatic campaign helped lay the groundwork for the Peoples Accord, co-signed by Hiren Kropus and Ghorbighor Wartscale, which formally recognised the Farseas as a Cormyrean protectorate and established Threetrees as its political hub.

Dranten maintained close relations with several individuals throughout the swamps and Cormyr, and allegedly sired many bastards during his years of diplomatic travel. He eventually married the Lady Yolanda Foxmantle, forging a loose alliance with the distant Sembian House Foxmantle. Together they raised Richelieu Kropus, the adopted son of Leopold, who came upon their home when Vader had reached his early twenties.

Family

Father: Hiren Kropus (human explorer and founder of the Farsea methane trade)
Brother: Vader Kropus (who ran the family's commercial empire)
Wife: Lady Yolanda Foxmantle (distant branch of House Foxmantle)
Adopted son: Richelieu Kropus (son of Leopold, raised by Dranten and Yolanda)

Legacy

Where Vader secured the Kropus empire from the inside through commerce and hard-won alliances with swamp denizens, Dranten secured it from the outside through politics and statecraft. The two brothers were different in almost every way, yet complementary in the most important one: between them, they transformed their father's ambitious dream into the political and commercial reality that would define the Farseas for generations.
