The Suh'Skel

The Suh'Skel

The Suh'Skel — meaning "Shadow Scale" in the lizardfolk tongue — is a militant insurrectionist faction dedicated to the complete removal of human and imperial influence from the Farseas. They are the most significant internally organized native power in the swamp's political landscape, and the most feared.

Ideology

The Shadow Scale's position is unambiguous: the Farseas belongs to its native peoples — the lizardfolk, the frog peoples, the fish peoples, the Grungs — and the presence of human houses, Cormyrean extraterritorial interests, and the economic apparatus built by the founding families (House Foxmantle, House Osrin, House Kropus) is an occupation that must end. Their methods are violent. Their commitment is absolute.

The Overthrow of Threetrees (~1505 DR)

The Suh'Skel's most decisive action was the overthrow of Threetrees' governing council in approximately 1505 DR. The council — composed of frog and lizardfolk nobility who had operated the city through cooperation and negotiation — was displaced in a swift, violent insurrection. The climax occurred at the Triple-Gallows Tree, the great multi-trunked swamp tree at Threetrees' center that has become a symbol of the insurrection's violence.

Following the overthrow, Threetrees passed into the governance of the Coralheart Family.

Manipulation by Foxmantle

What the Suh'Skel does not know — or has not allowed themselves to acknowledge — is that they are being actively manipulated by House Foxmantle fixer Drakkan Crowman, who uses their militancy as cover for Foxmantle commercial operations and to create chaos that benefits Foxmantle resource interests. The Suh'Skel believes it is acting for native liberation; Crowman ensures that liberation creates profitable vacuums.

One Eye's Eggs

The Suh'Skel's most audacious current ambition is to acquire One Eye's eggs and hatch the godzilla-sized crocodile's offspring as a kaiju-weapon — a living siege engine to be raised and deployed against imperial forces in the swamp. The strategic value of such a weapon is obvious; the practicality of controlling a One Eye descendant is a question the Shadow Scale has apparently set aside.

Leadership

Carrsack (the Overfather) serves as the Suh'Skel's political and religious leader. He rejected Caduca Aris's peaceful overtures and threatened genocide if native peoples were not recognized as Cormyrean citizens with full rights. He now rules from the Cathedral Barge as one of the six Mirelords.
