Leopold Le'claw

Leopold Le'claw is a Tabaxi operative who serves as Manshoon's primary envoy in the The Black Circle's most significant current political operation: the courting of Jon Aris, reluctant king of the Farseas.

Role

Le'claw is an agent's agent — smooth, purposeful, and effective in the specific business of making powerful men feel that the people approaching them are trustworthy. He led Manshoon's introduction to Jon Aris, carrying the clone's initial promises of support to a king who is surrounded by a civil war he did not start and brothers who worry about every hand he shakes.

Whether Le'claw is a true believer in Manshoon's vision or simply a well-paid professional is unclear. What is clear is that he is effective: the conversation between Manshoon and Jon Aris is ongoing, which means Le'claw succeeded in his opening gambit.

The Tabaxi Element

As a Tabaxi, Le'claw is inherently mobile, perceptive, and well-suited to the messenger and scout roles the Black Circle uses him for. Tabaxi are not common in the Farseas, which makes him both memorable and useful: memorable enough that people remember he was there, useful enough that they remember him as a charming diplomat rather than as a threat.

Current Significance

Le'claw is the human-scale face of the Manshoon-Jon Aris relationship — the person who will be present when promises are made and, potentially, when the cost of those promises is revealed. His ongoing access to Jon Aris makes him one of the most politically significant NPCs in the No Heroes arc.
