Shatterstone Gorge

Shatterstone Gorge

Shatterstone Gorge is a steep, three-to-four-mile mountain ravine cutting through the Stormhorns approximately ten miles (as the crow flies) from M.A.S.H. (Medical Action Stormhorns) toward the northern Cormyrean battlefront aligned with Marsember.

Strategic Lifeblood of M.A.S.H.

Shatterstone Gorge serves as the primary casualty-evacuation thoroughfare linking Andric DeVross's trauma hospital to nearly every major frontline battlefield in the Krusht war. Under normal operations, field medics haul wounded soldiers down its snow-packed chute aboard heavy ten-by-five-foot Wooliped-drawn ambulance sleds, then ascend the far basin via ancient Oghrann dwarven stairways or room-sized subterranean mine-cart rail tunnels.

The Stone Giant Blockade

During the October 2026 offensive, Commander Vargath — one of Krusht's top orc lieutenants — seized the far side of Shatterstone Gorge with fewer than ten bannerless Stone Giants. Hurling an uphill avalanche of boulders, the giants pulverized the Cormyrean rim-fort, ballistae, and Wooliped paddocks overlooking the upper drop, turning the entire gorge into a lethal boulder-and-log kill-zone.

The Sunken Second-Age Ghost City

Roughly two miles down the sled chute — before the final plunge into the lower basin — the canyon grade flattens into an eerily preserved, snow-lit Second-Age cliffside metropolis carved directly into the narrowing gorge walls beneath a thin ribbon of open sky:

  • Architecture & Signage: Characterized by floral-petal cylindrical stone awnings, curvaceous swirl-carved apartment blocks, ancient commercial arcades, and enduring civic facades — including a crumbled DRX (Dwarven Revenue Service) tax office and a ruined eatery bearing signage akin to "King Burgers."
  • The Watching Necro-Kitties: While devoid of recent bodies or bloodshed, the ghost streets are shunned by travellers "for undead reasons" — most visibly the hundreds of silent, glowing-eyed Necro-kitties perching along the ruined rooftops to watch sleds glide past.
  • Spore Accumulation & The Rukhshmen Signal: Deep in the pinched canyon throat, rancid carrion-and-mildew air pushes Anvil's Mysrim OS chemical sensors close to the 5,000 PPM fungal spore caution threshold, even as his internal receiver detects a rhythmic, Geiger-like radium static pulsing from inside the canyon wall — the signature of a concealed Rukhshmen ("God-Goo") storehouse.
