Ghorbighor Wartscale

Ghorbighor Wartscale was the patriarch of the Wartscale Family and the co-signer of the Peoples Accord — the foundational political document establishing formal relations between the swamp peoples and Cormyr. He holds the distinction of being the first Farseas political leader to receive formal recognition from the Obarskyrs of Cormyr.

Role in the Founding Era

Ghorbighor came to prominence during the generation of Vader Kropus, when the swamp peoples were beginning to organise civil structures and human commercial interests were expanding into the deeper swamps. His power base was Nykhas Rest — at the time, the most significant city in the region and the centre of the emerging Farseas political order.

The Peoples Accord was brought to fruition through years of diplomatic effort by Dranten Kropus — Vader's brother — who worked the courts of both Suzail and the swamp peoples' leaders to build the political will for formal recognition. Ghorbighor's co-signature alongside Hiren Kropus gave the Accord the authority it required on the swamp peoples' side: he was not merely a witness but a consenting party representing the interests of the Farseas communities, not ceding them.

The Accord established Threetrees as the political hub, created a council structure with swamp peoples' representation, and gave Cormyrean legal recognition to the Farseas while protecting its autonomy. Without Ghorbighor's participation, the document would have been a Cormyrean declaration imposed on the swamp rather than a negotiated compact between parties.

Legacy

Ghorbighor is remembered as one of the Farseas' founding statesmen — a figure who understood that recognition without autonomy was not worth having, and who negotiated accordingly. The Peoples Accord bears his name alongside Hiren Kropus's. That document has been contested many times in the generations since; it has not been dissolved.

The Wartscale Family he led remained a political force in the Farseas long after his death, their name associated with the legitimacy of the swamp peoples' claim to self-governance.
