Wartscale Family

The Wartscale family was the first political family in the Farseas to receive formal recognition from the Obarskyrs of Cormyr. They rose to prominence during the generation of Vader Kropus, when the swamp peoples were first beginning to organise into something resembling civil society, and their power centre was Nykhas Rest — the first major city — before Threetrees displaced it as the regional capital.

Ghorbighor Wartscale

The family's defining figure is Ghorbighor Wartscale, who co-signed the Peoples Accord with Hiren Kropus (with the political groundwork laid by Dranten Kropus). The Accord was the foundational document that recognised the Farseas as a Cormyrean state and established Threetrees as its political hub — and Ghorbighor's willingness to sign it, as the first Farseas political leader with Obarskyr recognition, gave it the legitimacy it needed to stick.

Ghorbighor was a man who understood the difference between being first and being right. He had Obarskyr recognition; he also understood that the swamp peoples' long-term survival within Cormyrean political structures required a framework that protected their autonomy rather than simply absorbing them. The Accord was that framework.

Power and Decline

The Wartscales' influence was rooted in Nykhas Rest and the early settlement era of the Farseas. As Threetrees grew into the dominant city — larger, more chaotic, and better positioned for the methane trade's expansion — the political centre of gravity shifted away from the Wartscales' stronghold.

They have since been superseded by the Coralheart Family, who currently rule from Threetrees. The Coralhearts represent the next generation of Farseas political power, built on the foundations the Wartscales established.

Legacy

The Wartscales are not a dynasty that vanished; they are one that was absorbed into the broader Farseas political fabric they helped create. Ghorbighor's co-signature on the Peoples Accord is permanent. The family's name appears in the legal record of Cormyrean-Farseas relations wherever the Accord is cited.
