The Grakoss family is a powerful Thayan noble clan whose actions set in motion the founding of the Farseas enterprise — though entirely without intention.

The Assassination of Etterych Osrin

Acting jointly with the Bacharuss Family, the Grakoss family summoned and directed the daemon Karzath to assassinate Etterych Osrin, the husband of Eleanor Osrin, in Thay. The political motivations behind the killing were rooted in Thayan factional conflict — the kind of ruthless calculus that characterizes Thay's noble hierarchies.

The assassination achieved its immediate goal. But Eleanor Osrin, haunted and stricken by the loss of her husband, fled Thay entirely rather than submit to the world that had produced his killers. She traveled to Cormyr, met Hiren Kropus, and helped found the Farseas enterprise — cities, industries, peoples, and conflicts that now span generations.

Thayan Context

The Grakoss and Bacharuss Family families represent the kind of Thayan noble power that operates through summoned intermediaries and indirect violence. Their use of Karzath was not unique — it was standard practice among Thayan factions competing for influence. What was not standard was the scale of the unintended consequences.

Both families are original Farseas Chronicles inventions and do not appear in broader Forgotten Realms canon.
