Gran Sombra is the deity of ancestry, the afterlife, legacy, and night trickery in the Swamp Gods pantheon. Manifesting in the deep night watches as a candle-hatted toad or goblin bard pulling unseen puppet strings, Gran Sombra guards the continuity of family bloodlines and the ancestral spirits of Threetrees.

With Papa Croakus held hostage by Tycho Irungarten, Gran Sombra has used the resulting spiritual power vacuum in Threetrees to position himself as the voice that "will lead us." Yet beneath his trickster masks, Gran Sombra takes ancestral bonds seriously: he has decreed that if adventurers can save Warwick Osrin from destroying Eadaz rather than slaying him outright, the Swamp Gods will release the spiritual tethers binding House Osrin to the swamp's darkest places and shepherd Eleanor Osrin's family safely into Kelemvor's realm.
