Writ of Harvest
Writ of Harvest
The Writ of Harvest is the founding legal document of the Farseas' resource economy — a compact between the House Kropus and the swamp's native peoples (principally through Ghorbighor Wartscale as co-signatory) that established the terms under which methane and other resources could be legally extracted from swamp territories.
Legal Framework
The Writ creates a structured licensing system for methane extraction:
- Extraction permits issued per designated territory
- Revenue sharing mechanisms (a portion of methane profits returned to the swamp territories' inhabitants)
- Dispute resolution protocols adjudicated at Threetrees
- Environmental restrictions (certain sacred sites and spawning territories designated off-limits)
The Writ predates the Peoples Accord and is considered its commercial predecessor — the Peoples Accord established political recognition, while the Writ established commercial rights.
Current Status
The Writ's relevance in the current civil war era (1507 DR) is a matter of active legal dispute. Carcenjo Foxmantle II's attempt to recover Foxmantle methane interests through legal or extralegal means — including the torture of Wreth at Slymount — is partly motivated by the Writ's original framework, which recognized Foxmantle family contributions to the founding era.
Players in the No Heroes arc discovered that the Writ's enforceability depends on the validity of the land treaties that Erdrick Aris was negotiating at Elden's Crossing when he died — treaties whose records were submerged with the city's west end and had to be physically exhumed.
