Zepherine is the operating company of the Kropus family's methane and resource extraction enterprise in the Farseas — formally chartered under a Writ of Harvest that defines the organization as a "General Resource Harvest Collective." In practice, Zepherine is considerably more.

Scale and Operations

At its peak, Zepherine reportedly maintained a military force approaching a thousand soldiers spread across the Farseas — a private army that rivaled the Purple Dragons' response capability in the region and exceeded it in local knowledge and swamp-navigation ability. Labour contracts with every major city and settlement provided the company with storage facilities, wagons, labour pools, and beasts of burden throughout the swamplands.

The company's logistics network made Zepherine functionally present everywhere methane extraction and refined goods movement took place. Its contracts were not merely commercial — they were the infrastructure that made the Kropus enterprise the dominant economic power of the Farseas.

The Methane Empire

Despite the modest language of its founding charter, Zepherine's production figures — upwards of what smaller operations could manage in an entire season — reflect the true scope of the Hiren Kropus family's ambitions. The company controlled the wells, the pumps, the transport routes, and the political relationships that made extraction possible.

Current Status

The death of Lucien Kropus left Zepherine without clear leadership and its carefully maintained alliances in disarray. The company's assets, contracts, and military capacity are now among the most contested prizes in the civil war that followed the collapse of Kropus authority. Various factions — including the Foxmantle, the The Black Circle, and the Mirelords carving fiefdoms from the chaos — have interests in absorbing or controlling what remains of the Zepherine operation.
