Methane is a naturally occurring, powerfully flammable gas produced by the organic processes of the Farseas swamplands. It is the primary economic resource driving the region's development and the central source of conflict between imperial interests and the swamp peoples.

Methane emerges naturally from decomposing organic matter in the swamp. The Geyser Parks — areas of concentrated methane venting — are typically populated and revered as holy grounds by the swamp denizens who reside near them. The gas is rich in nutrients and sustaining for certain swamp life forms that prefer it to standard air.

Economic Importance

The discovery of the Farseas' methane potential by Hiren Kropus transformed the region from a lawless backwater into the most contested resource zone in the western Forgotten Realms. Key developments:
