The Farsea Chronicles

A story line in which I provide the playership with a patron and an antagonistic environment in which they can prove themselves the heroes they can be.

In the realm of the Farsea Swamp, a tapestry of history and intrigue unfolds, woven with the legacies of noble houses, enigmatic creatures, and shifting allegiances. Decades ago, the legacy of Vader Kropus took root, a man known for his cunning machinations. As a puppet master manipulated by Sembian families, Kropus became entangled in a conspiracy that claimed the lives of Lord Yorick Osrin and Lord Erdrick Aris. Amidst this turmoil, a sinister figure, Drakken Crowman, sowed seeds of discord that would shape the swamp's destiny.

Vader's transformation in his later years marked a turning point. His ruthless past gave way to a focus on nurturing growth for his family's sake. The legacy of his choices would haunt the swamp, with his son Lucien embodying his ruthless traits. Kropus's influence cast shadows on the Farsea Swamp, and the swamp denizens paid the price for his family's power struggles.

The swamp's intricate ecosystem fell into disarray after Lord Erdrick Aris's demise. The once-mighty Osrin house saw its holdings crumble, its legacy nearly lost to time. The Foxmantle and Uskevren families, embroiled in the conspiracy, sought control over vital methane resources. Specialist groups led by Oulanda Raylight and Christo Gobb ventured into the heart of the swamp, facing the unforgiving terrain and each other in their quest.

Whisper, the vengeful spirit of Aromarr Osrin, emerged from the swamp's depths, a force of retribution against those who wronged his family. The thornless rose, symbolizing Kropus's geyser supply company, stood as a testament to his legacy. Yet, beneath the surface, forces battled for control.

The colossal crocodile, once tamed by Kropus, reemerged, its eggs a coveted prize.

Full Campaign Overview

The Farseas Chronicles is a D&D 5e campaign set in the Farsea Swamps of the Forgotten Realms, positioned between Cormyr and the west. The swamp's pre-cataclysm names were the "Marsh of Tun" and "Farseas Marshes." The campaign is set at 1507 DR — eleven years ahead of the mainstream canonical date of 1496 DR — and incorporates firearms through the Gunslinger class. The overarching theme is imperials versus natives for the resources of the swamp: refined tar, methane, and a rare substance called Hydracephelate.

Season 1: The Farseas Chronicles (Foundational)

The first season establishes the world: the swamp peoples and their politics, the three founding families (House Foxmantle, House Osrin, House Kropus), and the tensions between human enterprise and native sovereignty. The season opens with the kidnapping of Xevus Coralheart by The Suh'Skel — a direct shot across the bow of the nascent political order. Players are introduced to the layered complexity of the swamp: nothing is simply good or evil, and everyone has a founding story that explains their choices.

Season 2: Lions & Nobles

Political intrigue deepens as Cormyr and Sembia insert their interests into the swamp. The noble families of the wider Forgotten Realms — Foxmantles, House Mournsoul, House Goldsword, House Ebonhawk, House Uskevren — compete for the methane wealth that the founding generation unlocked. The season ends with Lucien Kropus's death in a massive multi-family skirmish, triggering financial chaos and civil unrest. His death creates the "Kropus vacuum" that will define everything that follows.

Season 3: The Iron Garden

The Irungarten family takes center stage. The aesthetic is body horror and dieselpunk: sleek, dirty elves in black leather, cybernetic augmentation, industrialized exploitation of the swamp's divine infrastructure. The season follows an escort mission to Silverpool, three major encounter arcs (Thayan Ambush, Demonic Swarm, the Migma puzzle-boss), and climaxes in the Irungarten control room. The outcome: the Black Tar is neutralized; Hydracephelate is dispersed; the swamp gods are wounded by an etheric bomb; and Papa Croakus is captured by Tycho Irungarten. Eadaz amalgamates with Migma to become the Mushroom Queen.

Season 4: No Heroes (Current)

Players start at level 5, building a settlement at Elden's Crossing in the northwest Farseas. The civil war unleashed by the Kropus vacuum is fully underway. Cormyr wants the swamp's refined fluids and magically charged fauna. Six rising warlords — the Mirelords — carve fiefdoms from the chaos. The party includes Zolat (Axolotl, pollution specialist), Vvindvenferd (Cloud Giant explorer), Myhrk (Druid), and Tau (Tortle Monk).

Key events so far in No Heroes:

  • Players portal into Carcenjo II's office; free Wreth from Slymount, making Carcenjo an enemy
  • Players resurrect Aromarr Osrin from the Spirit Road; return him to Yorick in Sschindylryn
  • Players exhume submerged land treaty records from Elden's Crossing's west end
  • Manshoon clone begins courting Jon Aris via Leopold Le'claw — Jon's brothers are alarmed

Current State of Affairs (1507 DR)

The Farseas at the campaign's present moment is a region in open civil war, with no dominant power capable of imposing order. The founding families' empire has fragmented: the Kropuses are dead or absent; the Foxmantles are an enemy of the players; the Osrins are in hiding, their true status unknown to their own house leadership. The The Suh'Skel controls Threetrees. Irungarten holds Papa Croakus hostage and pumps magic essence from the swamp's divine bones. The Mushroom Queen seeks to enter the Spirit Road. Manshoon's clone is quietly knitting alliances. And somewhere in the deep Underdark, a Siv lord and a living Osrin sage watch the surface burn.
