"A good run."

Monday, April 29, 2019 - 20:38

There are many things that will kill a group, and many times have I seen a group slowly dwindle away to nothing.

It's always sad, and a miserable experience as a dungeon master, especially when many times, the individuals who make up your game are your friends.

I decided it was time to can the Monday group and start fresh. A new roster of people who don't have a whole lot of drama and familiarity with me.

Fridays roster is tentatively up to four steady. Time will tell.

It's not hard to find players, but it can be hard to find committed players that fit your...

The growing viewership of Monday, the dwindling playership of Friday

Tuesday, February 19, 2019 - 09:25

We are all responsible for making last nights game amazing.

I want to just extend a thank you to everyone who was in the viewership last night, even the bots.

It's always been a really big challenge balancing my interactions with the viewership while maintaining the flow of the game, and last night was one of those rare occurences where I manage to keep everything somewhat in check.

It didn't seem like anyone lost out on their injections, and the players didn't feel like I was neglecting the game for the viewers.

Coming back to the chat window after a spell and...

Drunkin' & Draggin'

Saturday, February 9, 2019 - 16:10

Drinking too much during game is bad. It's really detrimental to the game and makes it hard for everyone to enjoy the game.

Don't feed your DM shots during game.

As DM, refuse shots while running game.

Shos are bad, mmkay?

Otherwise, hey, 3 combats!

Off to a start

Wednesday, February 6, 2019 - 20:49

With two sessions of Strahd under my belt, I can honestly say I'm loving it.

I was a bit stumbly with the first session, and much smoother the second time, even managing to get a dramatic chase sequence fit into play.

I was very nervous last Friday, being it my first session with a complete work to reference, and I messed up a lot of things by my count.

Moving forward I hope to grow more and more comfortable with referencing the book and knowing where to go.

My second session I was a bit more practiced.

I tend to over act a lot. I imagine these...

End of a campaign.

Saturday, January 26, 2019 - 11:29

It's over.

One could argue it was over when three players left the group, but last night, we wrapped up what was left of the campaign I had been operating for years.

A hundred or so NPCs, a robust setting, multiple paths of adventure, all culminating in a quick and final set of battles that saw the campaign wrapped up. Some have said I should publish my world as a supplement and perhaps in due course I will.

With a...

Abolethian influences.

Wednesday, January 23, 2019 - 23:27

The aboleths of Xxiphu use an astral collector to funnel arcanic power into an arcanic aquifier and the players are fighting a Kraken and its minions to get to the Mythil that is powering the suspension of the floating city as per canon.

Next session, I need to present 'lesser Aboleths', or the ones who are combat capable.

After the Mythil gets rocked, or collected, the city has to land, which is fine.

They can keep the Mythil but the city will land and remain emplaced until...

Fun factor

What happened to the Cormyrean epic, the distraught family, the etc; meh fuck all that. In the end, I wanted to get things going faster and it would have taken longer to address some needless character development. Here's the location, kill the goblins on the way. We had injections for the first time in a while that session, and it culminated in an NPC quest giver and tour guide.

The Cormyr campaign has always been operated with the fun factor first on the priorities. The games are fast paced, and the table is always laughing.

The CloudSpires campaign tends to be so mired...

The Cormyrean epic

Monday, January 14, 2019 - 12:25

My Monday game hasn't played in a spell. It's been about a month since we gathered for our two hour sessions.

With such short windows of time for play (7pm to 9pm) I have to be very judicious about what and how I bring to the table as dungeon master. Any loose goose gameplay quickly eats up time and if you let folks meander around the shopping mall, chances are you'll have spent the entire session role playing merchants and describing their inventory.

Tonight the story picks up again, with the party having returned to town where I intend to wrap the events of their previous...

Dungeon crawls, and the long road

Sunday, January 13, 2019 - 01:57

With the game leaving the old story behind, and taking a simple high level dungeon crawl motif, I have moved the game to an environment where high level combat and ridiculously powerful entities can populate the area as necessary.

Playing it loose.

I was underprepared last game. I'm thankful I had the opportunity to provide a little bit of build up to the Abeirian venture, but I simply didn't have enough prepared going into this.

I am enjoying the direction, and the situations; how they're dealt with has been fun as well.

An Aboleth City?

I wasn't really into the idea...

The final countdown.

Sunday, January 6, 2019 - 05:10
An Aboleth, from Eberron, with its _ahem_ 'metal men'.

In the final few chapters of a campaign coming to a level 20 close, I drag out "life after 20" homebrew with god boons as provided via primordials and dragons.

Our cast of adventurers is recruited by Eddard Reville, a blue skinned tiefling with experience aboard ships in the astral sea, to chase after the signal, the noise that followed from the energies sourced from Abeir in a deitous (etymology: 'outside') resurrection.
