House Osrin
House Osrin
House Osrin is one of the three founding dynasties of the Farseas enterprise, alongside Kropus House and House Foxmantle. Originally Thayan scholars known as "the Silver Minds," the Osrins defected from Thay after their matriarch Eleanor Osrin fled the assassination of her husband Etterych Osrin. They are followers of Kelemvor, god of the dead, and are known for an approach to the elemental arts that emphasises stewardship of the soul rather than exploitation of elemental bodies.
Without the Osrins — specifically Eleanor's vast sanctuary network — neither the methane trade nor lasting civil settlement in the Farseas would have taken root.
Family Crest
The Osrin family crest bears a silver goose on a field of midnight blue. It is this heraldic animal that gave the Thayan curse on Eleanor Osrin its particular cruelty: when the Thayans transformed Eleanor, they chose to make her into a silver goose — the creature from her own family's banner. The humiliation was deliberate. Every moment of Eleanor's cursed existence was a mockery of everything the house she built represented. The goose was not arbitrary. It was chosen to make her suffering wear the face of her own legacy.
Origins
House Osrin's Farseas story begins with a murder in Thay. Etterych Osrin was assassinated by the daemon Karzath, acting under the control of the Bacharuss Family and Grakoss Family — two rival Thayan power clans. His widow Eleanor fled with stolen research and Hydracephelate samples, traveled to Cormyr, and met Hiren Kropus, joining the trio that would found the Farseas enterprise.
The Sanctuary Network
Eleanor's contribution to the founding was humanitarian. She established a network of temples, way-stations, clinics, and supply points across the Farsea expanse, providing food, shelter, and religious services to drovers and beast-race peoples alike. This soft-power network earned the Osrin name a reputation for trustworthiness that Hiren and Vader Kropus leveraged repeatedly when negotiating deeper into the swamps.
The network helped establish Nykhas Rest as the Farseas' first major city and contributed to Threetrees' growth into the regional capital. Eleanor's buildings still stand as temples and sanctuaries today, though the organisation that staffed them has long since faded.
The Thayan Portal Network
Eleanor set up portals between the Farseas and Cormyr early in the founding years because Carcenjo Foxmantle I refused to return to the swamps and the three partners needed reliable communication. These portals became part of the Osrin institutional infrastructure — and eventually an instrument of something more troubling.
In recent years, the Osrins have used their Thayan-derived portal expertise to re-establish themselves as political actors in Cormyr's courts through methods that leave something to be desired. Certain members of the Cormyrean court have been replaced by Osrin agents; the original courtiers are kept sedated in tanks, their intellects sustaining the family's collection of intellect devourers. Adventurers discovered this arrangement by stumbling through a portal pad into a Thayan keep in Cormyr.
Nobody's a saint.

The Rukhshmen Faith
House Osrin distils souls rather than elementals, producing Rukhshmen ("God-Goo") — a Kelemvor-aligned spiritual substance standing in contrast to the Irungartens' purely industrial approach. The Osrins view elemental distillation as a form of sacred stewardship: the soul deserves passage to Kelemvor's realm, not exploitation.
The Carnival
During the worst years of Thayan persecution, the Osrins created The Carnival — a mobile semi-planar vessel that masqueraded as a traveling carnival. Half in the Material Plane and half in the Ethereal, it served as a smuggling operation, a refuge, and a vessel for protecting Eleanor and the family's most sensitive secrets. Its collapsed tunnels and rusted rides still exist beneath Silverpool.
Current Affairs
House Osrin's public face is Chanteclair Osrin, who runs the family's operations without knowledge of what lies beneath them. She is unaware that Yorick Osrin is alive in the Underdark, unaware of the court infiltration programme, and unaware that Aromarr Osrin's resurrection has reunited father and son in Sschindylryn.
